The tradition began in 1893 when a short 6-hole course, designed by Thomas Bendelow, was built on the east shore of Lake Mahopac. Five years later, Mahopac Golf Club was formed. The course moved to the north shore of the Lake in 1900 as a 9-hole, 2,730 yard layout. In 1913 it was extended to a full 18-hole track designed by the famed Devereux Emmet, who is also credited with the design of Garden City Golf Club and Congressional Country Club.

Today, the 6,523 yard course enjoys the distinction of offering a new challenge with every round where a premium is placed on golf course management and shot-making abilities. The course has earned the reputation for having some of the purest putting surfaces in the area. Well bunkered greens coupled with the varying hole designs require a range of shots inviting players to use every club in the bag throughout the 18 holes. In 2006, the club renovated the 5,000 square foot lakefront property and became the only club in the area to boast a private beach as part of its offerings.

As generations come and go, the Mahopac Golf and Beach Club has remained a staple of the Hudson Valley. Now in its 126th year, Mahopac Golf and Beach Club is still going strong. Our members carry the long-lived tradition of this golf course each and every time they play and they will continue in its historic traditions. At 6,523 yards, Mahopac Golf and Beach Club's par 70 layout is as challenging as it is beautiful. Neighboring the beautiful Lake Mahopac and carved out of one of the most scenic areas of Putnam County, the golf course features tree-lined fairways, strategically placed bunkers and slick, well-guarded greens designed to test your shot-making ability. With a range of tee boxes to accommodate players of all skill levels - from beginning golfers just learning to play to the avid low-handicapper - this 18-hole championship course will provide both challenge and enjoyable playability.

For players who seek to fine-tune every element of their game, Mahopac Golf and Beach Club offers a practice facility including a 250 yard practice range, short-game chipping green, large practice green and bunker area.

The full service golf shop also provides members with the finest in golf apparel and merchandise along with a PGA staff to attend your every need. A full schedule of lessons, clinics and tournaments provide ample opportunities to improve your game and experience the camaraderie of private club membership.

The size of MGBC's membership insures tee times are required only on weekend mornings and any member desiring a time can normally be off the first tee by no later than 10AM. Tee times are not required on weekdays and members are welcome to come at all times and make a game.

You can find great golf courses that are not very good clubs and great clubs that don't have very good golf courses. As our members say, Mahopac Golf and Beach Club has the best of everything: a challenging golf course with immaculate conditions, prime tee times, a wonderful location, attentive staff and a congenial membership without comparison!

Mahopac Golf & Beach Club seeks to meet the golfing needs and social enjoyment for its members and their guests, and maintain the highest standards of service and course conditions at all times. The Board of Directors may occasionally adopt additional rules and regulations intended to facilitate the achievement of these objectives. The Rules of Golf as approved by the United States Golf Association and The R&A govern play.

Proper attire is required at all times. Our dress code is designed to maintain an atmosphere consistent with the tradition of The Mahopac Golf & Beach Club and the game of golf. Members are responsible for advising their guests of the appropriate attire for any event.

The General Manager and his staff, as well as members of the appropriate Committees, have the responsibility of monitoring and enforcing these standards on behalf of the membership. The staff has been instructed to advise discreetly and not to provide service to anyone not dressed in accordance with the guidelines. Please understand that the staff is doing their job by enforcing the rules and please do your part by adhering to them.

Appropriate attire at the Club includes:

• Slacks
• Collared shirts (all shirts must be tucked in)
• Bermuda length shorts ("cargo" shorts are prohibited)
• Turtlenecks/Mock Turtlenecks
• Hats may be worn on the golf course with the brims forward but must be removed when inside the clubhouse.

A reasonable pace of play at Mahopac Golf & Beach Club is crucial for creating an experience that fosters enjoyment among all golfers. Playing at an appropriate pace does not require “hurrying up” or rushing around the course. Accordingly, a foursome is expected to complete 18 holes in approximately four hours.

All golfers are prohibited from driving carts in the fescue. Please stay on cart paths near tee boxes and greens, and use the clearly-defined entrances and exits to all fairways. Additionally, please replace your divots, repair ball marks on greens and rake bunkers after each use.
